Yo Anne Goudie. thought of you tonight when sister Mary rang to say she had been to the funeral of friend Margaret Smith, 2nd wife of John Smith, the violinist. John had been her carer too for many years since she developed MS. John played a couple of tunes on his trusty violin at the service and then when the coffin was carried out he went in front with his violin playing another tune. Not a dry eye in the hoose!!! Brought back the night you, John Goudie and wee Jamie aka Goudie Quattro left Wellington for Shetland 42+ years ago and there was John Smith playing the fiddle in the Bar (Rob Muldoon and co all got up and clapped) and then Smithy went in front of us all walking right down the gate playing more tunes til you boarded the plane! No security back in them days. Angela Hart will remember all this too. John Smith was born in NZ. his parents were Shetlanders but to hear him speak you would have sworn he had just stepped off the boat from Lerwick. Some good laughs and memories there. Steenie Tingley-Goudie, can you show this to Dad Goudie please. Just say Dirty Bertie from Number 30, he will understand. xx
