This would dramatically reshape Lebanons influence in the area and it would allow for tremendous internal growth and economic prosperity. Some of this areas ownership is disputed by Israel so theres been some difficulty in finding oil companies that are willing to drill on disputed claims. Naturally, the US is involved (theyre involved wherever theres oil, right?) and theyre urging Lebanon to delay drilling in the disputed zone until competing territorial claims can be resolved.
