Yosemite Lunch Walk 176 Its Tuesday, and that means Renee is my co-pilot on the walk. We drove her little Fiat electric car out to El Cap Crossover, shot some photos, and then circled back on Southside Drive to the turnout for the Three Brothers. The first horizontal iPhone image is a panorama, looking north and east, with two of the Three Brothers at the far left (Eagle Peak is the upper brother, with Middle Brother to its right ~ Lower Brother is hidden by the trees). The outcropping of granite to the right center is Sentinel Rock, reflecting in the Merced River. To the right of that reflection, the river is frozen on top to the far right south bank. The second square image is history in the making. Thats El Capitan, the tallest granite monolith in the world, rising 3000 feet from its base to the summit. Youll notice a small, red circle in the lower center. Those are porta-ledges, housing climbers Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson, who are in day 11 of their free-climb of the route known as Dawn Wall. Free-climb means no ropes or other aid to climb the route, but youre protected by a rope in case of a fall. This is all over the internet if youre interested. Look for Corey Rich Productions on Facebook ~ great posts there of the event. The last square image is a closeup of the Three Brothers, taken from the south bank of the Merced River looking north. Beautiful winter day in Yosemite Valley, almost like fall. Its 55°, sunny and no wind to speak of. Ahhhhh . . . .
