You Dont Know What is in Someones Heart... Usamah Ibn Zayd said that he was on a war expedition with the messenger of Allah. And one individual from the opposing army began to flee. So Usamah and another man from the Ansar cornered the man and when Usamah raised his sword to kill him, he said, ashadu an La Ilaha Illalah (I bear witness that nothing deserves worship except Allah!) The man from the Ansar left him alone while Usamah stabbed him with his sword until he died. When word reached the Prophet he said to Usamah, Usamah! Did you kill him after he said La Ilaha Illalah? Usamah said, He only said it because he feared my sword! The Prophet said, Did you open his heart to see if he really believed? What are you going to do about his shahadah on the Day of Judgement? At times we can be very judgmental about the intentions of others. We find it difficult to just accept the actions of others without putting our own interpretation on it. Usamah Ibn Zayd took a mans life based upon what HE thought the person meant and will be accountable for his actions on the Day of Judgment.
