You always hear the story of a fireman saving a cat out of a tree, well yesterday at around 6:15 pm we had a twist on that story. People enjoying the river near the city water tank on South Bank Rd. heard a cry for help. After some careful observation they noticed a young woman in a bikini sitting at the top of an elm tree about 150 feet above the river. She had climbed up the tree, but was too frightened to attempt to climb down. Fort Dick Fire, Sheriffs Office with our water safety units and then Crescent City Fire with their long ladder truck arrived on scene. Volunteer Fireman Blane Hurley who by trade is a logger (yes, we still have a few around) got onto the ladder which was extended out as far as it could go and then climbed the rest of the way to the woman. He secured her too himself and helped her back down the tree to the ladder.
