You are all invited to a forum on the challenges in the education sector in Ghana. Thursday 2nd October, 9am, Alisa hotel Accra.... LADIES...... Ihave been accused of letting the side down because the panel of discussants for this program is made up of four men and a woman. I apologize for that, next time I will dig deeper to find women resource persons. But hang on a minute...... it has been several decades since Beijing, many empowerment programs later, many opportunities ( though not enough) that have benefitted many women. Yet it is still quite difficult to get women to speak up or step into the public space. There are many powerful women in Ghana, in high positions, controlling vast resources and extremely influential but the unsavoury truth of the matter is that they reap the benefits of the struggle to push women forward in all spheres of life and are just not prepared to GIVE BACK. In Accra today there are a handful of women who are volunteering their voices in public debate, a precious limited handful. They are involved in sanitation, education, health and add their voices to the growing numbers demanding good governance and accountability from government. The rest stay in the comfort of the homes and churches and get on with their lives. They see wrong and dont speak up, forgetting that we all need to build this country so our children will have a stable country to live in. They go to work, do school runs, and manage homes....... so do we all!!!!! Frankly Im done chasing women, most of whom are wealthier, more powerful and more influential than I am to contribute to the struggle to get this country out of the rut were stuck . Maybe its because your conscience does not niggle, or because a pastor has not directed or because you cant immediately see the business model.... whatever the case maybe.
