Any question call me at 916-320-9444 On this day, Americans pay tribute to all American Veterans, living or dead. They thank especially the living veterans who served the country honorably during peacetime or war. At least two (Col. Arjinderpal S. Sekhon and Col. G.B. Singh) served with their dastar before retiring. Several Sikhs are now serving, but only three have long hair and wear turbans as special cases. Further, at least two have given their life, Specialist Cpl. Gurpreet Singh in Afghanistan and Uday Singh in Iraq and.The Sikh community should participate in the Veterans Day Parades with pride, since the Sikhs have fought in all American wars since the First World War. Bhagat Singh Thind, was probably the first veteran of Sikh American heritage. He came to USA from Amritsar, Punjab in 1913. Sikhs have served in U.S. armed forces with distinction. For our community, participation in the Veterans Day Parade is highly desirable. It gives us a chance to distribute drinking water bottles etc. and earn goodwill. Also, we can distribute educational material about our identity, culture, history and faith to participants and spectators. We can be holding placards indicating Sikh beliefs which the audience would appreciate. Holding American flags shows our patriotism. Pictures of Sikh veterans are good displays.
