You are taking something you did not earn, and by doing so the person who you take it from has less; their property is not borrowed, it is permanently transferred. In the Welfare case its actually worse in that the property taken is done so under threat of force. That taken by the hermit was taken by subterfuge, but no threat of force was ever made, and in fact he took quite a bit of care to avoid the possibility of such a confrontation.
