You ask any of us that have battled Cancer, radiation, chemo, dealt with losing our hair..... what this young girl did was unbelievably brave and supportive. A Cancer patient thinks (and I know I am one).... OMG Im going to lose my hair what will people think how will I look what will I do. Its emotionally painful and doesnt go away. Our society is so stuck on what we look like. You ask a Cancer patient that has survived and had their hair grow back and we will tell you...... we dont care about hair any more. It doesnt hold the same level of importance in our lives. But be sure during the process it up ends you to where you feel victimized and punished (worse than you already are) and it just feels plain old ugly. Its a sign youre sick, weakened and everyone knows. It feels awful. When your friend shaves her head to look just like you, your heart sings and you dont feel alone. Id like 10 minutes with the principal/superintendent that made this decision. Thats all it would take for me to make her feel what she did to both of these young girls. She/he needs to FEEL it to understand it. BIG MISTAKE. I hope the community does something about this.
