You can draw a line from the Straussian neocons to Rob Ford. The coarseness and crassness he represents starts with an acceptance of union bashing, poor bashing and the like - a boorish philosophy that borrows from the macho world of televised sport and uses those metaphors of war to justify continued repression, inequality and the erosion of public institutions. Rob Ford is the end product of a society that increasingly sees itself as taxpayers only and not citizens.
