“You can never be ready for everything, but the simplest thing - TopicsExpress

“You can never be ready for everything, but the simplest thing is simply be aware of your surroundings.” Yep, all the guns, knives, pepper-spray and EVERYTHING OTHER DEFENSIVE TOOL is useless if you do not keep aware of who and what is around you...situational awareness. Do not get preoccupied with what you are doing including loading and unloading your vehicle. And for heavens sake DONT TALK or TEXT unless you are in a place of relative safety such as a store, restaurant or in your locked and running vehicle. Simply taking a couple of seconds to look at your surroundings and seeing who is close to you can make all the difference in whether you are a victim of a crime or not. Start with who is in your immediate vicinity...10 yards and less. Look all around you. Once you have assessed that no one and nothing that is a potential threat, move out to 50 yards and do the same thing. Looking 360 degrees around you. Then look at your destination and determine if the is anything or anyone that is a potential threat. While you are doing this, make a plan for as many scenarios as you can. Remember if something doesnt look right or feel right, it probably isnt, but in order for you to notice...YOU HAVE TO LOOK. First, make yourself safe by removing yourself from the potentially dangerous situation. The best way to survive a violent confrontation is to avoid it. If you cannot avoid the situation then put yourself in the most advantageous position that you can, including taking cover behind any object that can stop a bullet or put a barrier between your and your attacker(s). Then be prepared to FIGHT WITH ALL YOUR BEING. Use whatever you have and whatever is around you as a weapon or as a barrier. Call attention to yourself by yelling or screaming at the top of your lungs but dont be distracted by your screaming, do it IN CONJUNCTION WITH your plan of action. If possible, call 9-1-1 and DO NOT HANG UP. Even if you cannot talk, the police may be able to determine where you are and get help to you. BUT DONT COUNT ON IT. wishtv/2015/01/02/beech-grove-police-look-for-answers-in-unprovoked-stabbing/
