You can replace musician with artist, Production Company with Gallery and Producer with Curator and get the same story for the art world! Everyone in the whole art gallery system (publicly funded, as opposed to independents) gets paid a working wage to put an exhibition on, except the artist. Somehow a fee for the artist disappears, or is minimal. Why is this? No-one says to an actor wed like you to be in our TV show, lots of people will see you, great exposure, great for your CV, so no fee! So why do artist put up with it?
