You can waste an entire lifetime waiting for someone to change. There is nothing wrong with wanting and praying for someone’s best to emerge, but your life should never be predicated on what they decide to or not to do. Love those that you desire to do better. Never give up on them and hope for their best, but be cautious. At times making withdrawals from yourself to deposit into them might be foolhardy, especially when they demonstrate a lack of hunger for better or continuously waste and squander your valued resources. As hard as it is there are times you simply have to say “enough.” Afterward you must refuse to allow guilt to buffet you for being wise. You cannot be the answer to everyone’s dilemma or the source for everyone’s need. Carefully listen for God’s direction. Your withdrawal from them (whether it be temporary or permanent) might be the very thing that affects the positive change in the one that you love.
