You cannot separate race and class in the USA, or any country where the transatlantic slave trade took place. When you look at who is the majority of the ‘poor class’, and then compare that number to that race’s actual population size, the unbreakably strong and undeniable link between class and race becomes so much more visible. Much like when you look at which race accounts for most of the prison population, despite being less than 15% of the USA’s population and despite the fact that they DO NOT commit most of the crimes committed in the USA, (institutionalized) racism becomes a lot more visible.
