You cannot truly love someone and expect them to conform to your ideals. Loving your partner exactly as they are means you dont have to tolerate or benefit from everything they do - rather you become a stable fixture of honest and accountable support for their own personal goals and agenda. Successful relationships* consist of individuals who align their agendas together for long-term OR short-term achievement, and commit to helping the other be the best, most complete version of their-self in order to fulfill a joint purpose. Loving someone fully and having a successful relationship with someone are not mutually exclusive experiences, but they also dont have to be paired together in order to have positive relationship experiences. Many people have such a fixed standard of what a relationship is, and have an oppressive need to regulate it. Relationships are complicated because we make them complicated. When you love a person fully, you should not try to manipulate their reality or project your goals and standards onto them. Instead take time to be a friend, learn who they are organically and make a decision to grow in the same direction or support each other as you grow in different directions.
