You can’t run your life on defense. Come to God and get help in time of need. Quick Hit! 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. You can’t run your life worried about your past, your present situation or what might happen in the future. No matter the temptation, no matter trouble and no matter trampling you might get from others, Jesus has called us to go forward in our lives and proclaim His kingdom. We are to be soldiers for Christ, and as soldiers, we are to battle the forces of evil for the souls of men. You don’t do that being scared and timid. In times of trouble, in times of fear, in times of faithlessness, go to the throne of God. God boldly and He will help you through whatever trial you face. Let’s take this one a little deeper. 14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Meaning – We all face difficult situations. It might be temptation to do wrong. It might be a storm of trouble that came to us that we had no part in causing. And, I want to throw this in because it fits me and it just might help you – it might be fear of criticism from others because of the life we have lived. No matter the trouble that has come to us, we always have access to the throne of Almighty God. We have access to the one who is all powerful and all knowing. Verse 16 tells us to approach His throne boldly to find help – not ask for help, but to find help. When we come to God with confidence and boldly, He is going to help us. Remember, God is our helper and He wants to see us overcome the trial that we face more than we do. Application – I faced a trial yesterday and will continue to face this trial for quite some time. I don’t want to share a lot of detail, because it is work related and it just wouldn’t be appropriate to share details. But let me say this, the temptation for me is to clam up and not have my positive effectiveness on others around me. But, God didn’t call me to sit quietly in a corner and sulk. God called me and He called you to have a positive effect on the ones around you. So, I am going to go forward and continue to help others where I can. Where my opinion and assistance is not wanted, then I will politely refrain from offering. But, I will not change the person God has called me to be. God wants us to be salt. God wants us to be light. But as the trials come, where do I find help? Where can I go to get wisdom and strength? The answer is right there in verse 16. I go (and you should go too) to the throne of God. I ask Him for guidance and help in my time of need. Whatever the need in your life, take it to God’s throne and He will help you.
