You complain its difficult to find a job, yet youre sitting there - TopicsExpress

You complain its difficult to find a job, yet youre sitting there with bright, unnatural hair colour, piercings dotted around your face and wear clothes that show off as many tattoos as possible. Youre going into potential work places in snapbacks and ripped jeans without a thought of how youre going to speak to the employees inside and you still wonder why you cannot find even the most unskilled work? Yes, I have red hair, lip piercings, stretchers and visable tattoos, but thats because I proved myself in the workplace. When I looked for work I dyed my hair a natural colour and kept it tidy, I removed my piercings or used clear ones before going to places to ask about work or for interviews. I wore long sleeve shirts that covered up all my tattoos and dressed in smart attire. When it came to questions at the end of the interview I would politely enquire about their policy regarding these personal effects and work with those standards if I got the job. None of the jobs I have ever worked really liked unnatural hair, piercings or tattoos, but over time employers suddenly didnt mind me leaving piercings in or dying my hair. Why? Because I made the effort and proved my worth. Sure, some places wont allow you to have any of these, but you simply cover them up or remove them at work and return to yourself outside of work. There are plenty of people hungry for work who look and dress the way the average employer wants them to, why let them have the advantage when you can easily accommodate this for work purposes? Once you have experience behind you many employers will happily look past your appearance because you have proved yourself with plenty of work experience. I work surrounded by men and women in suits, short back and sides and with some or no piercings or tattoos, but they dont even mind that I have my lip piercings in or that my hair is red, because they know I can do my job. So why not shut up, stop complaining and make an effort. Because it aint employers fault you cant find work, only yours.
