You dont have to be in remote back country to need to think about communication or safety equipment. In fact this form of ignorance and false sense of security is what get most people in trouble. On Sunday the 14th of December 2014, a 38 year old man and a 37 year old woman were rescued from Claustal Canyon, Mount Tomah in the Blue Mountains. The bushwalking couple had a GME PLB and completed a form advising police of their planned bushwalk destination. At approximately 9pm, the GME PLB was activated. Emergency services attended the canyon along with a NSW ambulance helicopter. Just after 11pm the pair were reached in dense bushland and assisted from the location by rescuers. The man and woman were uninjured but were assessed by ambulance paramedics at the scene. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of carrying a PLB and making emergency services aware of your planned destination. #GME #PLB Blue Mountains #hiking The Real South Australia Aussie 4WD The Heysen Trail National Parks South Australia SA Rogaining Association
