There is a line of thought that taking time to create is a selfish act. In fact, a lot of creatives with whom I work struggle with taking time to practice their art. It is my experience that when you are fully engaged in your creativity, you are nurturing that part of yourself that, in turn, helps to nurture others. Is it selfish to breathe? Is it selfish to eat or sleep? Or bathe? We wouldnt think so. And yet, the need to create, the urgency to create is something within us, whether we acknowledge it, whether we engage it, or not. Being engaged with your creative self is being engaged with your life in a holistic sense. It is not a small, segregated, part. It is a linchpin to a total life, one that has one foot in tangible and the other foot in the ethereal, in the spiritual. It keeps us grounded and yet allows us to fly at the same time. Taking care of ourselves and our needs makes us better people, better spouses and parents. Art renders us human and connects us. And sharing with us on Tuesdays allows for others to be encouraged by your actions. It affirms that what we do is vital to a total life. It tacitly gives others permission to be selfish too. So that ultimately, we can be selfless, and give ourselves away. Namaste, yall
