You grew up in Anchorage, when it was legal to ride your snowmachine thru neighborhoods, suburbs, and even along side of the road, or ditch. Yes, one could fire up their snowmachine and go thru the inroads and crossroads of places like Airport Heights, and other Subdivisions. It used to be okay to ride your machine in the ditch alongside DeArmoun Rd. But a city ordinance passed a law stating that it was not longer legal, so we snowmachine enthusiasts have had to give up many a convenience, if we wanted to obey the law. I for one, did now always want to obey, and at times, my feelings went against the grain. I made it a tradition, that every December 26th, the day after Christmas, Id start my machine up, head up DeArmoun Rd, take a left on Hillside, and full tail it to Upper Huffman, and back. I did this for several years on end, every day after Christmas, always at night. I never got caught nor found out, except for this posting that admits to my rebellious antics from time to time, once a year, on the same day, on the same month.
