“You handed over to me five talents; see I have made five more - TopicsExpress

“You handed over to me five talents; see I have made five more talents” (Mt 25:20) We all know people who are multi-talented. They seem to be blessed with gifts that we ordinary mortals can only dream of. They can sing, dance and play musical instruments; they excel in art, cooking, writing and speaking eloquently. We, at best, may have only one or two of these talents. But whether it is one talent or ten, I need to acknowledge that talents are a gift from God. I don’t become superior just because I am multi-talented, nor I am inferior if I have only a talent or two. Secondly, the talent that God has given me is meant to be used for his glory and for the good of the others. It is not how much I have but how I use it that is important. If I use it only for personal gain and self-gratification, then the talent is wasted on me. I am the like one who “hid(his) talent in the ground” (Mt 25:25). On the other hand, even if I have just one talent, I need to ‘work with (my) hands’ (1 Thess 4:11) and use if for the purpose that God has given it to me. Then I can joyfully tell my master on judgment day that I have multiplied the talent he gave me. FRUIT: Let us seek new ways today to use our talents for God’s glory and for the good of others.
