You have a right to ask why things are the way they are when they - TopicsExpress

You have a right to ask why things are the way they are when they should be different… No matter who you are, where you are from you have a right to an answer. Be part of the Right to Information Day initiative!!! rtiday/ Have you ever seethed about promises that were made and then forgotten? Have you wanted to storm the authorities with your questions? Maybe you have. Is anger and agitation the only way to go about changing things? Do we always have to shout to make ourselves heard? The answer is no. But what if we told you that you can get answers by channelising your angst in a silent, civil, yet effective way? You have a right to know why the road outside your house caves in every time it rains. If your passport application is making you run around in circles you have the right to know “why”… If the facilities in your University is in poor condition and you are not being provided what you are entitled to as a student, you have a right to know “why”…. Use the Right to Information, a law that empowers the common people to get clarity on decisions and actions of the government, at all levels, across government departments at the panchayat, municipal, state and even central level. But awareness of this critical legislation remains low. Many citizens remain clueless about the nuances of usage of the #RTI Act. Others have cocooned themselves in the belief that the law is the exclusive preserve of social activists. Still others are in a state of apathy about the citizens ability to impact governance. The I Lead India Right To Information Day initiative seeks to inspire citizens to overcome their apathy, educate them about RTI as a powerful tool of citizen empowerment and help create an understanding of the manner in which RTI can be leveraged to bring greater transparency in the manner in which we are governed. The initiative, being conducted in partnership with the National Campaign for Peoples Right to Information (#NCPRI), will see a slew of activities aimed at spreading awareness of the act. This will include workshops in key cities of India, citizen queries being answered online and offline, creating an online repository of readily available information on the issue and much more. The initiative, while not being a channel for submission of RTI applications, will help citizens verify the contents of their application forms and encourage others to question the authorities by filing RTI applications, in the build-up to the Right To Information Day, on Oct 25. #KeepSmiling :) youtube/watch?v=EjOYqvF6ESU
