You have mastered the 5K. Now what? How about running a 5K to help spread the word about a phone number that could save lives? The 811 Run starts at 8:11 a.m. Aug. 2 at Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis. Officials with DPS Office of Pipeline Safety hope the run and following safety day event will help educate Minnesotans about the importance of calling before you dig to avoid hitting underground utility lines. For more information and to register, go to imathlete/events/EventDetails.aspx?fEID=20493 All proceeds from the 811 Run will go to Firefighters Operation Warm, an organization that provides warm winter coats to children in need. Whether you are a homeowner or professional excavator, calling 811 before you dig will get your utility lines marked at no cost. More about 811 at gopherstateonecall.org
