You have probably heard that we are currently watching another storm system moving onto the UK shores and this is already showing its hand into the SW of the country with some heavy rain and strenghtening winds setting in here - 92mph gust just recorded on the Isles of Scilly. It is the SW that will certainly see the worst from this storm but what about closer to home and the East Midlands? We look to miss the very worst of what this storm has to offer but this does not mean we escape without a bit of a battering. Rain will reach the region later on this evening and then set in for the night and bring some heavy bursts at times. Winds will also be strengthening as the rain arrives and overnight we can expect winds gusting to around 50mph. Tomorrow day and night now looks to be a very wet with bands of heavy rain or showers along with winds gusting 50-60mph, especially over the hills. By Thursday things calm a little with winds moderating and things becoming mostly dry. It is not the end of it though with further rain tomorrow night and then yet another storm moving in for the weekend with more gale to severe gale force winds, heavy rain and squally showers. SEVERE WEATHER WATCH During the next few days the amount of rain is likely to mount up and although the situation here is not as dire as in the SW we still have to be prepared for the risk of localised flooding tomorrow and over the next few days with the slight risk of river levels topping banks in prone locations. Winds of 50mph+ could bring minor structural damage and blow down trees, especially as roots are likely to have been loosened in the waterlogged ground. Needless to say driving conditions will be difficult at times with the certainty of plenty of water on the roads and some roads likely to be affected by flooding. Kaaaaaaaaarl.
