You hear a lot these days about “Common Core” A set of uniform educational achievement standards to be used throughout the nation. Is this a good idea? Well before you decide, there are a few things you need to know. You will be told that the new standards are higher standards. This is most assuredly not so. The new standards are, in fact, lower standards. Do you really want your school systems standards set by the people that run D.C. schools? Because that is who is driving the bus! There was exactly one math educator on the development team. He refused to sign off on the math portion of common core because you did not actually have to solve the math problem correctly, you just needed to have good (read progressive) thoughts while getting it wrong. He said “Ummm I don’t think so”. Also, Bill Gates is big backer of this measure. He sees education going to a purely digital format so that it can be more dynamic going forward. Please, if you will, juxtapose that concept with our first lady’s quote from around the inauguration “Barack is going to make us change our history”…Yeah, um… I’m OK with my history not being quite so dynamic. I could go on, but I am already getting boring, so let’s just leave it with this. The current administration thinks it is a great idea for our country. If you arent completely up to speed on the honesty of the current administration, then I don’t know what to say
