You just cannot imagine the joy in my heart this week! One of my dearest, long-time best friends sent this home with me a couple of weeks ago. It belonged to her great-grandmother born 1856 in Stone Mountain, GA. My friends father was able to give me some of the family history and Im in the process of doing more research on the entire family. The wheel was originally made in Tennessee where they moved after Atlanta was burned by Union Troops in 1864. Later, it moved to Arkansas in at about 1896. Now its with me in Texas. All of the parts you see are ORIGINAL including the quill. If you look very closely at the photograph of the quill, you can see the original corn husks that were wrapped with cotton thread to hold the quill. Its absolutely amazing. The history of the wheel just lights up the room!
