"You knew this was coming. Duvall’s performance is quite obviously the biggest weakness in Stanley Kubrick’s unhinged horror. The female lead spends the first part of the film asking questions in a ridiculously over the top tone of voice, and the second part screaming ridiculously loudly and awkwardly instead of acting. Sure, Nicholson is also over-the-top here, but he pulls it off in a way Duvall doesn’t even come close to." The Shining, otherwise called "The incessant face-palming at the hysterical Duvall".
