You know I almost didnt go to Shambhala Music Festival this - TopicsExpress

You know I almost didnt go to Shambhala Music Festival this year... It started with me realizing that even though I have a free ticket due to photographanteering, its still expensive, at least a few hundred bucks. Food, gas, ferry, snacks, camping stuff, batteries. Then I heard that my lovely, amazing friend Richard Hubbs was not leading our amazing media team along with that we didnt have our Media club house anymore. I heard there were some changes and I was worried that it wouldnt be the same beautiful Shambhala that I knew and loved for the last 4 years. How could I say no though? and Friday morning Aug. 1st, Im packing up and getting ready to leave.. Mike and I show up early Saturday morning at 8am and are quickly informed that until Wednesday morning at 8am, all staff and volunteers are not allowed to camp on the right side of the trail. Im not going to get into this, its a whole nother conversation, but besides the obvious argument, it was VERY counter productive. So setting up camp twice wasnt really in the awesome books. However, once Wednesday rolled around, we setup our main camp in a new location we found on the right side and everyone started rolling in from SUPER ISLAND FRIENDS - Shambhala 2014!. Things finally started to come together. On Friday, The Aussies rolled into our site.. Sophia Lewis, Garrick Brown & Sal Awad. Three of the nicest, coolest people any of us have ever met. They fit right into our maing crew of homies we had setup. Bren Hall, Evelyn Katherine Easton, Taylor Noel, Crash Watson, Arielle Huska, Reliable Mykel, Reed Steele, Thalia Cove, Patrick Trottier, Amanda Dawn-unda & Jess Bodrug, Gary Renwick & Christina Winter, Inigo McCaig and Jasper Barnard-Campbell. I dont know why but it took me until Thursday afternoon, pretty much when I started shooting the main festival starting with Defunk then SkiiTours amazing performance, too really get into the groove. My best homie Kyle Waddington helped shove me in a positive direction. (thanks dude). Got to shoot and hangout with my fellow beauty Leah Gair (you are an amazing photographer and a total babe) for the first early few days. Seeing everyone around the festival and all the faces that I only get too see once a year for a week was so nice. Lets talk about the music for a second.. So on point this year. Gorgon City, Kill Paris, Featurecast, Kaminanda (THIS DUDE. WOW) who else..Dave Lwsd King (Best Ending Ever Dude), Neon Steve (you killed it bro) The Correspondents (So creative), ANDY C (jesus), OPIUO, Emancipator and ODESZA. Big shout out to Byron Whitlaw for his first year with The Grove, amazing job dude, was on point the entire weekend, a perfect addition to Sham. Big ups to Rich E Rich, Marc Lefy, Sureman and Everyone in Fractal Forest, I love you all plus hanging out and shooting in Fractal is in my Top 5 Best things in life to do. At the end of the weekend on Sunday night I was happy I came. It was my friends and the first night of photos taken on Thursday that really started the positive engine. Im really excited for this album. Its going to be a lot more disciplined, no filler, lots of action shots, portraits, different styles this time around. I have 1747 photos to go through now, (not the best part ;). They will be up before the end of the month and im excited for you all to see them. I cant wait for next year. It really is the friends that make Shambhala the best that it is, even amongst lifes curveballs. So yes Im going next year, haha.. and Im excited. Happy Shambhala Everyone!
