You know, I always find it entertaining when a newbie dismisses older entertainment because its outdated or old-fashioned. Ill tell you something: I get more positive reactions from knowing about Sid Caesar and Your Show of Shows, Red Skelton and his host of characters, or Stan Freburg presents America: The early years, because culture. Newbies, develop a healthy respect for classics for three reasons: 1. Successful people are generally older than you. Knowing your way around relevant history is always a very good conversation starter and a solid way of letting them know that you care. 2. People forget what older content covers. In a bind? Go back, rehash the material. Voila, youre a genius. Warning: This DOES ruin some content from todays line-up due to their obvious rehashing of material. It just helps you pick out whats original and what is not. 3. It gives you a better appreciation for those that use older content as an homage. There are a lot of shows where people know when theyre supposed to laugh, but the joke completely sails over their head. We, on the other hand, laugh our heads off because its genuinely funny. Its also considered a courteous nod towards the original and thats commendable for a producer. (Classic example: https://youtube/watch?v=DWrA3VPwJSA ) Learn to respect it because someday, its going to help you out. Plus, as Ive mentioned before, dont you want younger people to respect your culture when you get older?
