You know, I dont care for negative people nor the negativity that is produced by anyone who is not fulfilling their own life dreams. The negativity born of a lack of fulfillment causes resentment and keeps you from finding your own light. Once you move away from it, then your world looks better, more open to the possibility of growth. That means you will then have joy and happiness as you go about filling your day and time with things that you believe are for you and your destiny. Today, someone attempted to say I was self serving because I am referred to as the Bronzeville Diva! I listened in and tried to get a feel for the comment and found no truth or even a speck of my intent for what I have been doing or do. I am elated with being the gate keeper for this historical tag. A moniker given to the women who created music of every genre and generated an entire body of work in music, dance, art and a number of things all relating to artistic design and creativity, but more importantly, they also were activists. They used their names to lift up the image of African American Women all over the world who suffered from indignity. They sacrificed so much for us to be where we are today. Now sisters, let me say this...we are one no matter that we desire to be or not. We are one, whether we know it or not. Putting another down because you somehow see it self serving only says you seek to serve yourself. I have never been the Brnzeville Diva notthe only one, but I certainly am when referred to or introduced the Bronzeville Diva! I am happy to work and represent a history such as this. I work very hard daily in representation of this history and if you really want to know my work...google me and read the archives in the Defender, Tribune, Sun-Times, etc.etc. etc. Check out the many women I have proudly included on any show produced by me and with my hard and earnest work. I did not monetarily get rich nor seldom receive a thank you from some. I have been back slapped and turned from too often and too many more times it will happen. But like Angela Mayou says...still I rise! because I am the salt of this earth and the light of day. In me is a mission born to uplift and I too am a part of that which needs to be uplifted! And by the way...I need your support to keep it going. Peace
