You know, Ive been very grateful for my career. Back when this - TopicsExpress

You know, Ive been very grateful for my career. Back when this picture was taken I was just a 20 year old in Hawaii with dreams of going to Hollywood and making a 35mm film. Not make a first feature but just the opportunity to shot in 35mm. Back then I was a jack of all film trades. I could be a camera assistant, focus puller and loader by day and editor, negative cutter and negative developer (yes I worked for a film lab for free). But I knew that my dream could be achieved. But I never once dreamed that I would have much beyond that. When this picture was taken I was a 20 year old with just a small dream. I remember back then people around me would just laugh at the thought that someone like me could go to Hollywood and actually make a feature film was preposterous. But some how I never let go of that goal...Through all my initial struggles, I hung tough and was resilent to the constant rejection... Then one day I was in the right place, at the right time, with the right idea. My first film (The Sword and the Sorcerer) I pitched would be a money maker. I was thinking it could make maybe 4 million. But it made nearly 40 million (160 million in todays dollars) in the US alone. And off I went. But even then I thought Id be lucky to make TWO films, but I did, and 48 films later Im still making movies. Im very lucky and I appreciate the grace Ive been granted. And its screenings like the one on October 30th that makes me extremely grateful. To screen THREE movies in one night is to me mind boggling. So join me on October 30th and celebrate the epic jouney Ive been on since I was ten years old.
