You know, John 3:16 is probably one of the most misused and misunderstood verses in all of scripture. From thinking that God so loved the world talks about How Much God loves the world, when in reality the greek is saying in What Way he loved us. In fact a more literal translation would be God loved the world in this way. To the misunderstanding of the greek phrase behind whosoever or whoever. Many think whosoever to mean every single person in the world without exception, which if translated solely form the greek pas they would be correct. However the word whosoever in this passage is translated from the greek phrase pas ho pisteuwn meaning everyone believing or everyone in the believing group. So while the common translation of John 3:16 is not wrong, it is misleading. A better translation would go something more like For God loved the world in this way, that he gave his only begotten son, so that everyone believing in him will not perish but have eternal life.
