You know it is getting bad when a union bashes the Libs and a Lib president. I have agreed with this all along. ACA is not the fix, it is only going to kill jobs, weaken the already fragile tax base, and make any even more socialist solution seem necessary to try to fix a problem that is due to the very insurance companies that are raking in more money now than ever. My coverage, flat for 3 years (less than cost of inflation), rose almost 30% this year for the exact same coverage. This is no coincidence. Reform insurance, hell...even regulate the industry and the cost of healthcare will go down. A dog knows it can beg a little and get more food. There is reward in this behavior and it will continue to beg until it is obese. The medical industry figured out they could charge a little more and still get paid. That cycle repeated over and over again until you get charged the equivalent of 640.00 an hour for a simple checkup (160.00 per visit averaging 10 minutes time with both nurse and doctor as per Hannibal Clinic EOB sheets from my insurer). Hannibal clinic charges 48.00 to insert a needle into a vein. They also charge you per vacu-tube consumed. A simple blood draw will run 60 bucks for 3 minutes work. That is ridiculous when you learn what a phlebotomist makes (national average 13.00 per hour as per Bureau of Labor Statistics) and realize they can generate upwards of 1100-1200 an hour for a clinic during busy times. It is no wonder the system is broken. My wife had surgery. The little white medicine cup (aka McDonalds ketchup cup) was billed to our insurance at 4.00 EACH! That is why there is a perceived need for socialist medicine. Healthcare is expensive because insurance companies have allowed it to become expensive. Drug companies figured out they can charge whatever they want for patent medicines because insurance will pay. Fix the problem dont create others by rewarding the very source of the problem, the insurance companies.
