You know it just struck me that there is actually another Dam on the Leichardt River above Mt. Isa. The old Rifle Creek dam. I am fairly certain that the water in this dam is not utilized as it was deemed too small to supply the town’s needs. I wonder if there is even a pipeline to it anymore, I stand to be corrected but I really don’t think there is. I believe its dire straits in Mt. Isa as far as the water situation goes. If my theory is correct surely after the wet each year as soon as you could wouldn’t you just release the Rifle Creek water to flow the approx. 35 kms downstream into Lake Moondarra. The same would apply for the East Leichardt Dam and Lake Julius. After the wet you would just open the sluice gates and let her go. As far as I am aware these 2 Dams just supply Stock water and are used as a playground by the Mt. Isa population.
