You know, its been awhile since Ive spoken highly of my talents, but you know what? Im actually starting to feel proud of my drumming again. I really plateaued when I hit 18, and Ive had bits of improvement since then, but nothing noticeable at all for about 2 years now. But Ive been really working my chops on a drum pad for a little over a month, trying to play everyday I dont have any band rehearsals or gigs. My forearms are getting excellent workouts, especially my left arm (....yeah I know what youre thinking, Im talking about drumming here though). And my speed has seen noticeable improvement. Steady flam drags at 120 for over a minute, whereas in high school I was lucky if I could pull off one flam drag at 100. Do extended paradiddle pyramids at 160+, even triplet rolls are creeping up there. Even though other musical aspects of my life arent quite as hot, Im really liking these results. I just need to keep pushing the next couple of months, and then I should be able to blitz through paradiddles and triplet rolls at 180, which is my target. Also in other news, for the time being Im also filling in on drums for Poe and Monroe for an April gig while they find a permanent replacement. It was really cool to be asked because they felt that I could learn the material really quick. Helps my confidence out quite a bit. Although my beard of sorrow still grows....the time when I shave is actually visible, far at the edge of the horizon.
