You know, some people think band kids are weirdos, and nerds. - TopicsExpress

You know, some people think band kids are weirdos, and nerds. Thats not entirely true, band isnt just a thing that I like, its not something that I push myself to be in. I love band, all of my friends that are in it. As a matter of fact, I would have half of the wonderful friends I have today if it werent for band. Ever since fifth grade Ive known what I wanted to do with drumming, and that is to earn a scholarship and carry out my journey as a percussionist at a college. But for now I am a percussionist at Henry County High School, and I always will be. I will never forget all of the competitions Ive participated in, especially BandMasters. There is no other feeling on this earth than stepping on that field in front of all of those people. All of those people that are waiting to hear what youve been working on since summer. The feeling when they announce the scores, and you realize that all of your hard work and effort has payed off. No matter how much I sweat or how much I want to quit, I dont, because I know that my actions reflect on that one moment, that one competition that I will never forget. I want to be a champion, but to be a champion you have to work, you have to better yourself, and perfect your performance. If you are a band member, from any school, anywhere, listen to what Im about to say. When your band director, percussion director, guard director etc yells at you, they yell at you because they want you to win. They want you to amaze everyone at the competition, they want you to realize that everything is worth it. Its worth it, from the first note to the last, you have to give it your best, you have to give it your all. Keep your form straight, play to the press box.......all of those things matter, keep that roll low, if you do all of those things, it pays off, but most of all. Enjoy what you have while you have it. Your friends, late night bus rides, and BandMasters, because you only live once. You only go to high school for four years, make it the best four years of your life. Make memories, like that time at BandMasters when the hardest set in the whole show goes by and you hit it perfectly, or the hardest measure that you finally play perfectly. Ask a senior how it feels to win, or to beat your rival band because you earned it. It feels great, but my point is that no matter the situation. You have to put in effort, you have to listen to your directors, make friends, because all of those things will give you the best four years of a lifetime. Be proud to be a band kid!! Because if you hide it, that means you dont love it, and if you dont love it. Youre in the wrong sport, because winners love what they do, an because they love what they do, they win. BE A WINNER!!!
