You know the joke: life stages, belief in Santa, does not believe in Santa...then becomes Santa. In todays issue of this broadsheet, a columnist(Neal Cruz) cites a philosophy professor and a neurologist deconstructing ole Santa holding that perpetuating the Santa myth has harmful consequences to the development of children. But the article also aver of the many defenders of the icon which to its learned detractors is merely a con. No proof of figures or controlled study was given which in present standards may be received with a take it or leave it attitude. Then you have a comedic debunking of a myth with another myth. In the same issue, a feature of NORAD(North American Air Defense Command)tracking Santa, with volunteers answering phone calls and e-mails from children. Its facebook has attracted 1.45 million likes. This figure alone already is a foil to that theory that belief in Santa retards growth. NORAD being a military agency cannot admit nut cases, can it? Belief in Santa is based on a saint, Saint Nicolas, whose legendary generousity is Santas model for his expansive gift-giving.
