You know the ridiculous argument pro-gun activists make that well regulated in the text of the Second Amendment doesnt actually mean well regulated? Next time they come at you with that, send them the text of the 1792 Militia Act, which was enacted into law just one year after the Second Amendment was ratified. The law did the following: 1) Conscripted every white male between the ages of 18 and 45 to serve in the state militia. 2) Gave militia members six months to acquire the following materials for service: a good musket or firelock, a sufficient bayonet and belt, two spare flints, and a knapsack, a pouch, with a box therein, to contain not less than twenty four cartridges, suited to the bore of his musket or firelock. 3) Required militia members to appear, armed and ready, for muster/training. 4) Provided for the organization of militias into divisions, brigades, regiments, battalions, and companies with officer structures. 5) In case of an insurrection in any state, against the government thereof, it shall be lawful for the President of the United States...to call forth such number of the militia of any other state or states, as may be applied for, or as he may judge sufficient to suppress such insurrection. So much for Second Amendment remedies. 6) Established that militia employed in the service of the United States, shall receive the same pay and allowances, as the troops of the United States, who may be in service at the same time, or who were last in service, and shall be subject to the same rules and articles of war. 7) Called for establishment of system of military discipline for militia members. Stated that officers and privates of the militia who failed to obey orders of the President regarding militia deployments could be fined and/or court martialed as a result. Not well regulated? Nonsense.
