You know those simple little projects that you all maybe thirty - TopicsExpress

You know those simple little projects that you all maybe thirty minutes to finish because there are just routine? Yeah! Well, I have been working in baby steps to get the horse tank cleaned in anticipation of bring them to their winter quarters here at the house and several people have helped me along the way. Today all I needed to do was fill it. So I found the hose, dragged it to the hydrant, untangled it, and started to fill the tank when I noticed it was running out the drain spigot. No big deal. I get down on my hands and knees, adjusting my portable oxygen tank, and proceed to turn the handles on the spigot to close it. No such luck. It is stuck on wide open. Shucks! I get up off the ground (huffing and puffing) and go to the house for the pliers. Back to the tank, arrange myself, and apply pliers to the faucet. No luck. Apply a bit more force. Oh &^%$*!! One side of the handle broke right off! Now, holding my mouth just right, I gently begin to pound on the remaining handle in hopes I can get it to turn and --yeah, you guessed it! Broke that side off too. Took a long pause to think it over. Climb to my feet again. Tired of the O2 tank so left it laying and went back to the house. I found two tubes of caulking, both dried out, a can of putty as hard as a rock, and, well it seemed far fetched but maybe---a half a package of poster putty. Back at the tank, I mold all the strips of poster putty into a ball and pound it into the hole on the tank side of the spigot. I smooth it over and it looks great. Now I know poster putty was not made to fix water tanks, but anything like scum and dirty and dead leaves have been enough to block it in the past, so I am hopeful. So I stick the hose in the tank, turn on the water, and take a quick break. I am now over two hours in to the quick project and the sun is sinking a bit in the west. When I return, the water in the tank is almost half full which made me smile--until I looked at the spigot which is still draining enough water to make a small stream. Now we know poster putty isnt water proof! And its time to change O2 tanks as well. What was it Miss Scarlet said? Something about never going hungry again? Nah, that dont apply here! Oh, Ive got it! Tomorrow is another day!
