You know we hear/see a lot of stories of people with this or that type of cancer asking for help in any amount towards an expensive surgery! We all feel sorry for them, at times then we just move on with our lives without making any contribution. It always feels so distant! We dont know the person, we also think I could contribute my $5/$1 but really, what difference would it make?. Or we say I will see later if I can afford to contribute. Or we just read it, or see the pictures, feel sorry and think, ahhh another story ... Mwari Batsirai vanhu venyu, then move on with our lives. Rarely, is this person close to us! And oh, how different it all becomes when we know the person! Ndakarohwa nehana when I bumped into Tambus photo of her face now!! Reading that this face was the face of Tambu Makinzi ... I was shocked! You see, I know Tambu Makinzi from my school days at Mabelreign Girls High School. She was my junior, a very loving, humble beautiful girl. We were in the same basketball team, same hostel even. We did Variety shows together ...! So as I read the story of how she had been diagnosed of a rare cancer called Chondrosarcoma, my mind kept yelling, But I know Tambu! This time it wasnt a story about someone I didnt know. It did not feel distant at all. This is one of us, MGHS girl who wore that yellow uniform at some point, old Fiyo girl too. And all of a sudden I couldnt just stand there and watch. What moved even more is the inspirational, selfless stories of people coming together to spread the word and fund her. Diaspora community has done an amazing job already. Stories of people posting and reposting pictures and videos in support of the campaign to fund Tambu. Kedha. TV has mobilized many people to help, sirr Fatso Bvumbe, the page I grew up in Fiyo and many more I dont even know. Never look at your contribution and think its not big enough. There is power in numbers. So please share this with friends and help fund for my friend as quickly as possible. Ecocash any amount to Lydia Mambondiani -0772 268 643.
