You know we were talking survival situations a couple weeks ago and broken arms and wrists, legs came up a lot but MUCH more common and almost as debilitating are foot injuries. I spent many painful miles on Sunday thinking about this when a grape sized blister on my toe busted (i think i stubbed it on a rock) and the skin tore away from my nail. Walking with a little--but very common hiking/running-- injury like that is difficult and if you cant get out, gets infected easily. I went into a stream to cool off the pain and was reminded later I exposed an open wound to more bacteria. Its the TINY and common things - infected insect bites, blisters, hypothermia, dehydration that probably bring down more people than broken bones.
