You know what? Algoa Bay is notorious for all the storms which are a regular feature of our shores. In the 1800s before we had a harbour, shipwrecks were a regular feature along our coastline. Those powerful storms were able to snap anchor chains with ease and smash boats to pieces. A few years ago they tried an experimental fish net near Coega. Guess where that ended up? On the beach. I can only assume the anchor chains were unable to stand up to our fierce storms. Why else did that happen? Metal fatigue? The stresses generated by the huge waves are enormous and will pummel these nets to pieces. All you need is one piece of driftwood to plunge into the net, create a huge tear and all the breeding stock will escape. What on earth makes these guys think this new proposed fish farm will be able to withstand the storms now all of a sudden? Its time to shelve this ridiculous idea, stop wasting so much money on useless proposals and do something sensible for a change.
