You know what scares me most about this whole kidnapping and murder spree? The breakdown of trust. Human societies need a certain minimal trust, specifically the belief that barring extreme circumstances we will not harm each other. All the pro-coexistence op-eds in the world will not change the fact that more and more people will simply avoid hitching as well as anything resembling Arab areas even more than they did now. That is the ultimate tragedy.
