You know what we love about heroes? the fact that they are super human. That they can surmount the insurmountable. That they can stand strong in the fact of dire consequences and still end up winning in the end. The fact that they can do something more than we can even imagine - thats what makes us gravitate towards them. When a hero lets you down however - its the exact opposite. It hurts us...deeply. The same can be said for Imran Khan. The man said he would not go home...but he did. As trivial as that is compared to all that he is fighting for - it is the one thing that everyone keeps going on and on about. Frankly i was deeply hurt too. However it made me realise something. The more you appreciate a person...the deeper it hurts. You see - we tend to hold IK to higher standards than anyone else - because that is what he is to us - a national hero. Maybe not in politics for everyone - but in terms of cricket, and charity - he is for everyone. The man had been up for 40 hours. Had been travelling for two days. He had fever. Stones were thrown at him. He is 61 years old. Give him a break already. Its not like he used the police as his army to kill PAT members. Its not like he promised electricity and didnt give it to you. Its not like he put up containers all the way from here to eternity during independance day. Its not like hes ok with unleashing thugs to scare you back to your mediocre, scared, toothless lives. Hes fighting for a better election system. A system in which our votes will not be stolen. A system where overseas pakistanis can vote. A system that will bring up the best and the brigtest to guard our nations interests. He was tired - and he went home. And then he came back.then he went this morning. And then he came back again. He will keep coming back again. And he will keep fighting...because thats what this nation needs now...a fighter. The guy has probably dug himself into a hole with this one - but its only out of sheer stubborness against the status quo that he doesnt like giving up. I hear news of an army and NS understanding in the making - with chota bhai being sacrificed (i would love if that happens mind you). So whatever happens after today - or tomorrow - or the day after - my support will stay with this man. The thing about Khan Sb is he may not be the smartest politically, but he definitely is the most honest patriotically - and that in my books is what a leader for my nation is made of.
