You know whats embarrassing about the conformed communities of DJs? Its that they can defend the status quo so much that they can convince themselves a lie. For example, lately, my news feed every now and then will have a post about DJ Juicy M and one of her video sets with 4 CDJs, and how they are convinced she is miming the set. The video below clearly shows she can play on vinyl, scratch, get down with Serato, and do 4 CDJ decks, with an ear for mixing in key. I am going to estimate that I believe that playing on real vinyl, scratching, and mixing 4 decks are skills 90% of the DJ world CANNOT do. Yet somehow, DJs are convinced, she is pretending in all her videos. Give me a break. Im not saying she is the most talented female on the block, but I will say she does outdo the majority of the men and women who are calling her a fake. Its gotta be a lot harder to mime every sound she makes, than to just do it for real. But hey, thats what makes the difference between the people making things happen, versus the people DJing for a bedroom wall. The truth is, the way she spins would impress me even if she was a dude. But we know theres a double standard when you see an attractive girl behind the decks, DJs are wired to believe a pretty girl cant possibly have any talent. End rant. DJ Juicy M
