You know whats wonderful about Enemy Mine (starring a younger Dennis Quaid and Louis Gasset Jr., directed by Wolfgang Peterson)? Its a rare sci-fi survival film that also touches upon the cyclical nature of making war with other civilizations and - little by little - finding peace and (for lack of a more universal word) humanity in all people, human or otherwise. Its about race, teaching, faith, language, and love. And sure, some of its 1985 effects are outdated, some of its filmmaking techniques are very traditional... But I still maintain that the primary focus of any film is its story and characters, and this is a great, wonderful, affecting film.
