You know, when youre old, live alone, have a computer, no one telling you what t do---and you just came back from a nostalgic weekend???? Well, you get nostalgic and FB friends pay the price; I was just remembering my life in the hills (woods) of WV; Our shanty was almost within touching distance of the tracks (train hauled the lumber to mill); the crick was right behind us, and mountains rose sharply on either side, beyond tracks & crick----that crick supplied our drinking water as well as for bath and laundry--scrub board and tin tub). This isnt what I was reminiscing about. I was just thinking of all the natural foods that were supplied in our woods; there were Nuts-- black walnut, butternuts & hickory nuts; Berries----blueberries, blackberries, red & black raspberries, huckleberries, wild strawberries and Teaberries. The wild grapes were so good, but we had to wait for first frost for those and the persimmons. We also had little green apples that made fantastic jelly. I dont recall either my brother or I being sick, but I know I never had a pill (aspirin) until a teenager. We read and did our homework facing the old yellow kerosene lamp----I was pretty much an A student in those days!!! Books said our eyes would be ruined----but I dont wear glasses at almost 89 and even drive at night!!!!! I was blessed then and God continues to bless me beyond reason. Just thought some of you young----70 and under---folks may not believe how much fun was possible to be had with just imagination, or how healthy one can be without running to a Dr.!! AND the nourishing food that was available when we didnt even know what nourishing was!! So ends this bit of unnecessary info!!
