You know your from belfast if you recognize this.Vera Greenlaw owned this and 400 acres including both sides of rt 52 and two other farm houses,one of which I rented in the early 70s for 60$ a month.I thought it was a good deal until one morning at 5am she pulled up to my bedroom window on her tractor honking that is was time to bring in the hay.I had a full time job at Truits Shoe factory but that meant nothing to her.She frankly stated that a man aint worth a damn if he doest work from sunrise to sundown.And so I did.She had bad arthritis and sawed off a coal shovel and used it fir a cane.Still she drove the tractor while I tossed up the bails.We filled two barns.She had a pet pig in the kitchen and cooked in large coffee cans on the wood range.She didnt understand the fuss about organic gardening and said shed been spreading shit for years and it worked just fine for her.She looked more like a man a she said one time a hired hand took a leak in front of her and she asked do you always do that in front of a woman to which he replied I thought you were a man to which she replied with a right hook and knocked him right on the ground.The story she told me about the old house was that one day her mother walked down the road and never returned.She fenced it in,opened the doors and let her cows use it for shelter.They liked to convene in the center hallway and thus the sinking in the middle.Just thought Id share this as most of you didnt have privy.Its too bad no one did a Documentary on her.
