You know your local paper is bad when Bill OReilly isnt close to being the worst columnist they carry. I dont usually read what he says, but the one I saw this week said so much about whats wrong with our country these days. Bill O cant stop riding the horse of American exceptionalism, even when its no longer true. He says that even now, no other country compares when it comes to opportunity. If only it were true. Upward mobility at nearly all levels is more common (by percentage) in most Western European countries than it is here. College graduates finish school without tens of thousands of debts from student loans. People dont spend time worrying whether their insurance will cover their illnesses, and unlike here, they know they actually will be able to retire. Unless youre a pro athlete, a rapper or someone who invents a social media site, an awful lot of opportunity here is myth or hype. billoreilly/column/Pick-a-Better-Country!?pid=44236
