You may have heard people talk about shocking the muscles in order to see increased muscle size and definition which has led to some questionable exercises and training programmes in recent years. The biggest issue with changing your workouts and exercises too frequently is that you never know whether you are making progress. Think about how much effort and focus is required to learn a new exercise. Do you think your muscles are working to their maximum potential when you are learning something new? Absolutely not. Its only when you are familiar with an exercise that you are able to produce maximal force and focus on actually lifting the weight as opposed to working out how to lift it. For the majority of people our recommendation would be to stick to a programme for a MINIMUM of 12 weeks. This will allow you enough time to learn the exercises as well as make progress, whether that means increasing the weight, increasing reps with the same weight or simply improving range of motion. All of which will adequately shock the muscles into new growth. ~ Harry
